The girls are cock-a-hoop today because the dinner ladies’ strike means they can take lunch boxes to school… with eggy sandwiches. We’ve been resisting the pressure to switch from hot dinners to packed lunches for over a year now. Our argument is that making packed lunches takes time and will make us (even) late(r) for school in the mornings. Countering this is Hannah and Lauren’s considered position that but… but… but X takes packed lunches, and so does Y, and even Z doesn’t have hot dinners any more, and we’ve got pink lunch boxes with pictures of princesses on them, and awhh, it’s not fair!
You can see how finely balanced this thing is.
We’re expecting a full-on assault at home time tonight, with stories of how much fun they had, and how healthy they feel, and how honesly, the eggy sandwiches haven’t made them parp any more that usual. It’s going to be tough. Any suggestions for a counter-attack will be welcome, but please make it quick.
Listen girls, Auntie Edwina had to resign a few years ago over Eggs….I won’t go into the details, but lets just say that things got a bit messy.
Plus you can get salmonella from eggs. So they’re a no go.
OMG!! of the Councel Strike…..I saw on FoxNews that the police used Tear Gas! I hope all the children return home SAFE AND SOUND.
No suggestions on the “hot dinner” debate.
How much longer will it be before the answer is reveiled on “when I’m 64″ ? If it’s several more days, I’ll try to drum up more viewers to vote.
Crikey! I don’t know where the tear gas was, but the girls did indeed return home safe and sound. (Are you sure that wasn’t a report on the riots in Paris? Those are getting pretty hairy, but dinner ladies going on strike here in the UK usually provokes nothing worse than food fights.)
If you can get some more votes together then bring them on! I’ll reveal the answer once we’ve got a few more in.
Ahhh….. I remember the lunch box fight………… I to resisted it so much longer than most. I finally gave in and managed to fill the lunch box with items that my daughter didn;t REALLY like……… thus ended the lunch box question. Might suggest that they be responsible for making their own lunches…. probably won’t take long till the lunch boxes are a thing of the past….. (just an idea)
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. The assault happened as expected and it wasn’t pretty, but I like to think we got through it OK with your help.
Just stumbled across this site; it really made me smile… You obviously care a lot about your daughters, they sound like a smart and cheeky pair!
My Dad has a similar hobby… except his involves blogging about our guinea pigs – My brothers and me get somewhat forgotton
Beti has packed lunches. Ergo argument closed.
